A pretty decent turnout of 32 players and a good night of darts
Paul Read (starting on D18 with me having to start on D11) took care of me 3-1 in the opening round (although I narrowly missed the D5 for a 124 checkout in the 4th leg before Paul slammed in D20 in another assured performance)
My good wife Carol lost out 3 nil to Adie Johnson and Julie Wilson somehow managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory losing 2-3 against her "bogey" player Steve Allsopp
Young Ty Ward Junior played very well all night, defeating his Dad in the opening match and progressing to the quarter finals
Mark Sumo Wilson won the final 4-3 (coming back from 3-1 down) against (in mine and many others opinion) the most improved dart player of the year Nathan Sutton
Nathan had to start on D19 and Mark on the bullseye each leg - Nathan was in great form and in the deciding leg he narrowly missed D16 for the match only for Mark to finally hit double 1 (in a good tempered and sporting final) to make it a hat-trick of titles this season (Premier Division, Handicap Singles KO and Blind Pairs (along with young Jack Kerr)
Mark had proved once again he is the comeback kid - in the semi final he fought back from 2 nil down against Roy Marshall to squeak through 3-2 - in another very good match of darts.
Well done to all who participated
For me I am having a much needed summer break and need to concentrate on work so last night may well have been my last playing in the RDDSL
I would like to offer my thanks in particular to Roy Marshall, Chris Jacobs and Kev Ryan who do an outstanding job as the committee running the league - their tireless efforts are much appreciated even if not always acknowledged by many.
My thanks also to my fellow players (old and new) who over the years have been a joy to chat to and play against - I hope to have the chance to pop over in the coming months to have a catch up
Special mention to Gaz Stokes you are a true gentleman and I thank you for your kind words.
Darts isn't everything in life....but it's damned close !
