It is now !

I would love to try a bit of soft tip darts. the thought of a machine that stores all your stats where ever you are in the world is fascinating. I also heard of a soft tip machine that has a sort of dart pro game built in - so you could literally play someone elsewhere in the world on it - built in camera and television screen so you could see the opposing player and they could see you. Brilliant!

Phoenix from Korea who I'm associated and Dartslive which Sega in Japan had a hand in creating are both Internet ready machines, think dartpro in a way all in one package.

@Neil tried many points, Target short points created more bounce outs for me, I tried Cosmos as well, even though I applaud their products they did not feel right for me. Lippoints on the other hand are pretty durable and have a mat finish where it meets the barrel and a smooth finish at the end so easier to remove. Many players here swear by them.

The ones that we see in the UK tend to be the stuff you can buy in Toys R Us. In the countries that play soft tip more seriously, they have some very different kit.....

Exacatly Neil, I hate that there is so much junk soft tip boards on the market it gives a very wrong impression for those new to the game.

Best way I heard the difference in discribing soft tip vs steel tip, In steel tip "it's about what you make (score)". In soft tip "it's about what you miss"

The fat bull seems easy , but missing it will often cost you a game or match.

Okay, well we play exactly like steel tips here. With a single and a double bull. Only difference might be the master out.

Soft tip Elites !!

We alternate between cricket and 701. All the bull scores 50 and we play master out.

My own personal board the Dartslive 100s. The board is not so Grabby as others on the market, so darts are easier to pull out.

Cost me $1000 HKD but they retail at around $1488 HKD that's around 120 quid.

Soft tip Elites !!

Inside some of the dart bars in HK, this is pretty much the norm, be prepared to shell out some money though.

So - just out of interest ..... how much money are we talking for a game of darts on one of those machines - and what do you get for your money, just one game or a best of 5 match or what???

The price is usually per game, not per match. Here in the US, prices can be $.50, $.75, or $1.00 per game. It is different in different parts of the country.

I'll get to see what it costs to play a game in Hong Kong as I'm traveling this weekend (April 15) to play in The World - Stage 2. For more info about this event, go here: http://www.darts-theworld.com/en/. Paul Lim won the championship final last year (2011) and he also won Stage 1 last month (March 2012).

This event is played on the DARTSLIVE boards, which in my opinion are fantastic boards. If this is like previous events, it will be streamed live by the event promoters on USTREAM and it will be free.

Those are some great looking barrels Neil. I hope you sell shipping containers full of them. :D

As far as soft tip points go, I agree with Crash and Dazzman that the L-Style Lippoints are some of the finest soft tip points you can buy. I've also had good experience with the soft tip points from Tiga. The Japanese companies who manufacture soft tip points seem to use a better plastic compound than other competing companies around the world. Serious players know a good point when they use one. Everybody that I've given sample points to, now swear by them and they switched to them.

For conversion points, the L-Style Hardlip point is a great point if you want a point that doesn't alter the weight of your barrel. Personally, I like a real steel tip point and the best steel tip 2BA conversion point that I've found is made by Bullstar in Japan.

Nice one! - thanks for that :)

We in the UK are very short on any type of information or expertise regarding soft tip and the game simply is not played here. It is my personal belief that we need the game here as pubs are closing down and those that are still there are turning into 'gastro pubs' with no dartboards. We need something that will get the young people back into the game and maybe those big internet linked machines are the answer?

Yep, here in germany it is standart 0.50 € per game. But i dont know if you have to pay in "official" competitions as well. On our machine of course we have opened the cash-module and built in a little switch so if you press "return money" you'll get some free games. It wouldnt take € anyways, still needs DM.

Btw: this is the type of machine we have at our location
Image
Only for Shanghai or x01 games, no cricket mode built in in this model, the newer ones have it. You can also change the worth of the bull, but we have it 25/50 for normal games.

Here most pubs have at least one or two of those (or newer) machines, but you can rarely see anyone playing, sometimes they have tables in front of it so you dont have your 2.44m of space.

I like the idea of "network"-machines too. How great would it be to play you guys or have some highscore-lists.

For the Lip points: Ordered some and will give them a try. The Evo points i have are good too, but i find they break a bit too easy. Those Italian points which are mounted on the Target soft-tip darts when you buy them are great too but even more expensive than the Lip points.

It would be fantastic mate! I hope that at some stage someone in the UK talks to those big manufacturers in Japan to get some of them over here! How great would it be to play someone in europe or Japan??? :)
