Guide - How to soundproof a dart board

Postby The Big Roberto » Tue Jan 12, 2010 6:54 pm

I have seen a lot of people asking about soundproofing there dart board, so I thought I would do a little guide.
If you have neighbors who don't like the thud, thud, thud of your darts at one in the morning this simple set up should do the trick and all it costs is 2 quid.

Things you'll need
Dart board
cabinet (optional)
PVC backed coir mat (coconut hair) 2 pound at Tesco
4 wedges or some beermats
Sharp scissors

The Mat

Image

Cut your mat to size, you may have to cut it in two parts like I have done.

Image

Mount the cabinet to the wall and place the mat inside and attach bracket (use longer screws than the ones you get with the board if possible)

Image

Then add the wedges or beermats for a nice tight fit and your all set for a nice quiet game

I have to say that looks like a good idea - does it actually work?? Is the dartboard nice and solid still or can you move it against the thick background??

Its very solid and quiet as the mat soaks up the impact of the dart

It does look like a good idea. When I made my dartboard cabinet, I lined the back of it with quarter inch thick cork tiles hoping that this would have some sound deadening effect - however it has no effect at all.... :(

thats cause your darts hit the board so hard neil if the cork wasnt there you would have knocked a hole in the wall by now

My neighbour has whacked hos board on the party wall between us and it makes a right racket. I bought the coir mat and gave it to him and he used it but I still hear the thud thud thud and I it reverberates to all rooms in the house that are on that party wall, bedrooms included. All I want is some oeace and quiet at home and I cannot tear mt kitchen apart to try and soundproof the wall and rebuild it all again as it would cost thousands, all because of a poxy £20 dart board and being selfish. Might have to "have a word" with a few big lads to gently persuade him to move it or enjoy future meals through a straw.

lol mate..... use psychology on him. Say things like both Ted Hankey and Dennis Priestley use 14g darts - so the very best players use really light darts. If you use heavy darts you must be a pretty crap player..... then see if he goes out and buys some 12 g darts....

Hes apparently a really top player though, when I told him about the thud thud thud through the 4 inch brick wall with 2 inches of plaster on he said he knew it made a noise!!! cheeky cnut ;)
Anyway if he continues to bug me I have already got a bracket up on the bedroom wall and shall hang my board onto that and start playing at 11pm until 3am, see how the selfish prat likes that lol!

Is it easy to rotate ? Or do you have to take everything out and put it back in ?

Would this setup work with a Bulls rotating bracket?
