Saturday
SIMON WHITLOCK has picked up victory in Saturday's Unanderra Hotel Open, whitewashing Barry Jouannet in the final.

Whitlock claimed his second Australian Grand Prix title of the year with the triumph, as he warmed up in style for the start of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts on Thursday.

Having qualified through his group to reach the last 16, Whitlock was in devastating form, failing to drop a leg in wins over Daniel Sim and Dave Muller.

Rob Modra took three legs from Whitlock in a semi-final loss, before the pony-tailed star stormed past Jouannet in style to take the title.

Left-hander Jouannet knocked out Russell Stewart 6-3 in the semis, having also seen off Phil Bottrell and Simon Latchum in the knockout phase.

Rod Crawford and Brendon McCausland also reached the quarter-finals, while Wayne Weening qualified for the last 16 on his return to the DPA circuit.
Sunday
SIMON WHITLOCK has won the Australian Singles title, defeating Rob Modra 6-1 to claim back-to-back wins over the weekend.

The Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship finalist claimed victory in Saturday's Unanderra Hotel Open, and repeated the feat to take home the $1,000 first prize 24 hours later.

Having won a tough group which included Russell Stewart and Shane Tichowitsch, Whitlock defeated Craig Prizeman 6-3 in the last 16 and Mike Merz 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

He overcame Bill Aitken 6-1 in the semi-finals, before repeating the score against Modra in the final to claim his third title in four events this year.

Whitlock will now return to England for the start of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts at The O2 on Thursday, where he takes on Phil Taylor.

Modra showed fine form in reaching the final, dropping only four legs in the knockout phase in victories over Pat Orreal, Jerry Weyman and Aaron Petty.

Well he won both powerhouse BUT he didnt play very well, having said that his game was stronger than the rest but even on saturday he was second off his sheet.. sunday he won his sheet but nearly lost the first match straight afterwards.

Basically Simon was doing what he knows.. playing a high enough standard just to win and if he looked like being troubled he went up a gear (as he did in both finals..)
Think it was like this:
Saturday: 31ave
Sunday:30-32ave

As I said only when he needed to.. our grand prix curcuit is round robin top 2 off each sheet progress to the knockout stages etc etc etc
So Simon know from many years of playing this format he can coast in about 4th gear and get off his sheet, go to 3rd/2nd gear and win.. then sometimes turns on overdrive when he decides that he is not going to let a person win a leg at all.. thats the nature of the beast in Simon!
